Education

Here is some information about Janne Ohtonen's education. The school history is quite vast and I have several degrees on information technology and business. Also work informatics is part of my university studies. I wanted to have broad education on these matters and I studied a lot, since it was very interesting. Now I am able to use the skills that I have acquired from schools on my work and developing business organizations.

Turku School of Economics

I started my Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) studies at Turku School of Economics in year 2010. The main supervisor for the research is professor Hannu Salmela from the Turku School of Economics, information technology department. The research problem is: ”What kind of capability management is needed in an organization to do business process management?”. The goal is to graduate on year 2014. The title of the thesis is "BPMC - Business Process Management Capabilities". If you want to hear more about my research, you can join my BPMC Newsletter by emailing me. I was also teacher for Leadership and communication skills course (id: JO4/JO022041) in Turku School of Economics from January till February 2012.

IRIS 2011 paper: CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTORS IN BUSINESS PROCESS MANAGEMENT – A literature review

University of Turku

I started my Master of Computer Science studies at University of Turku at autumn 2003 and finished at year 2008. I decided to widen my skills at the software development area and deepen my knowledge on the theories of information systems.

My major was information systems and Work Informatics (WI), which is an international Master's Degree programme aimed at studying scientifically the relationship between the concept of work and information technology. WI is used as a model to examine the various activities supported by information technology and it is also a method used to accomplish practical results. The WI model is based on theoretical and empirical research. As a minor, I had Chinese business, culture and language.

University of Shanghai

I was an exchange student in Shanghai University for some months in year 2000 as part of my polytechnic studies. There I studied Chinese language, computer networks and discrete systems. I also worked there as a disc-jockey and bartender. I got really nice insight view into Chinese culture and that gave me a spark to get more familiar with that ancient culture and people. I got 93 points out of 100 points in Chinese language.

I studied again in Fudan University at summer 2007 for three weeks. The subject of the studies was Chinese culture and politics. The lectures were held by honored local professors along with teaching assistants from Finland. The course was really interesting and gave a good quick look into politic atmosphere of China.

Oulu Polytechnic

I graduated as international Bachelor of Computer Engineering (BE) at year 2003 from Oulu Polytechnic. There my major was software development and embedded systems. I started studying there at 1999 after I finished my army training at Kajaanin Prikaati. I moved away from Raahe, where I was studying until year 2002 to work for CCC Industry Ltd.

In polytechnic, I specialized into software designing and development. My main study subject involved Java and C++ even though I studied also some Assembly and other embedded systems languages. My main efforts weren't on the embedded systems, but on the Internet technologies. Therefore, I also did my  Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA) certificate there.
